Obtain the fair trade event designation

Product availability

The organizing committee must demonstrate that Fair Trade certified products are available according to the categories of products served during an event.

√ At an event, if coffee is served, it must be exclusively (100%) fair trade coffee. When tea is served, three (3) certified fair tea options must be offered. If chocolate is served, at least one (1) option of Fair Trade Certified Chocolate must be offered.
√ In addition to coffee, tea and chocolate, at least one other certified fair product must be available. In cases where the core business involves a product for which a fair option exists, every effort should be made to offer this Fair Trade certified product.
√ The organizers will endeavor to source other Fair Trade certified products where such an option exists. This includes bananas and other fresh fruits, beer, cotton, flowers, juice, spices, nuts, rice, sports balls, sugar and wine.

Commitment from partners

Organizers must ensure that all partners (organizations, institutions and / or companies) are knowledgeable about the basics of Fair Trade and understand what the Fair Trade Event designation means.

√ As much as possible, organizers should strive to work with partners who market or serve Fair Trade certified products;
√ Where appropriate, organizers should go to local interest groups working in the field of fair trade. (Contact [email protected] or [email protected] for contact information.);

Promotion and awareness

Promotion of the event should be digital and print-based so that participants and the media understand more about fair trade and awareness.

The Quebec Fair Trade Consortium informs, mobilizes and mentors the events wishing to obtain the designation. For more information about this service, contact us at the following e-mail: [email protected]
